I have an old Philips DVD Player and figured since I upgraded to a Pioneer Elite Plasma TV, I should get a DVD player that could offer upconvert capabilities. After some research the Denon seemed to be the way to go. I went to Best Buys Magnolia store and made the purchase. Hooked it up with a HDMI cable, but left my old Philips connected with the component cables. After much comparison using the same DVD's, the Philips actually looked better. We tried all of the various settings, but the best we could do was get it to "almost" match the old Philips. Unfortunately it had to go back. I'll try another upconvert player if it's not much better, then I say wait to see if HD DVD or Blueray emerge as an industry standard and get one of those next year.
