The Bottom Line:
I would recommend everyone buy this unit if they are looking at sub $500 gps nav.
The Plenio VXA-2000 GPS Satnav is a hidden gem in the gps navigation market. I have used just about every gps system out there sub $500 and while many top mfrs have new real-time traffic reporting and other new features, they still have small screens that everyone complains about.
The Plenio VXA-2000 offers a 7 inch widescreen with all the basic features you expect from a modern-day consumer gps system for around $450.
Large screen. Excellent lcd display. Various modes of brightness, and really helpful for people like me who have a hard time reading smaller 3-4 inch screens from competitors.
----PROS----
Touch screen ability. Because of it being a touchscreen, you can fly through options and destination planning very fast. This is a very responsive system.
Fast loading times. Gps signal is obtained very quickly. guidance routes fast as well.
Million point of interest. I have a bmw navigation as well, and it cannot compare to the ease of use that the Plenio VXA-2000 has when it comes to searching for nearby locations or places based on a destination you choose.
FM Transmitter. I don't know about anyone else, but I can't stand to use the internal speaker from any gps system. And the fact that most gps systems have a hard time working with fm transmitter, i get really frustrated and just shut off the sound completely. The FM transmitter on the Plenio actually works perfectly, and very clearly. Voice guidance is spot on.
Price. Nothing even comes close.
----CONS----
External Antenna. They should have it built in with the screen. maybe some flip out module like in the newer 3000 model.
512mb capacity. Because of this limited capacity, you can only have one region loaded at once. Say, western region (Cali, nevada, washington, etc). So if you want to travel to texas from cali, you need to load the midsouth region with the included dvd.
no bluetooth. I wish this thing had bluetooth. If it did, it would be a sweet combo with its working fm transmitter. maybe on the next model!
By the way, I bought mine at an online store called Ftapros.com. They have it for $449 free shipping I believe, which is cheaper than Tigerdirect.
