The Bottom Line:  If you are used to Tivo like I am, you will hate this product.
I've been a DirecTV customer for over 6 years and I've had DirecTivo boxes during all those years. When comparing the DirecTV Plus DVR to DirecTivo, DirecTivo is hands down superior in every aspect. I've had the DirecTV Plus DVR for 2 months now and I can't wait to get rid of it. The pros and cons sections has more details. I'm seriously thinking of dropping DirecTV and switching over to either Dish Network or cable because it's that bad.

Pros:
- Hardware is fine, probably better than Tivo's but the software is awful.
- 90-minute buffer.
- built-in caller ID service ( like the Dish Network receivers)
- The "Active channel", with shortcuts to other channels and information such as weather and lottery.

Cons:
- Inability to toggle between the two tuners. You actually have to record the channel that you are not watching, go through the "My VOD" menu, and select the show just to be able to watch the show on the other tuner.
- The fast forward and rewind features are inconsistent and unreliable. There is no system in place to compensate for the human reaction time. You can never get to the exact time where you want to watch a show.
- You can't skip ahead to the end/beginning of a recording in less than 2 seconds. You either have to rewind/FF through the entire recording to get to the very beginning/end.
- Maybe specific to my box, but the DVR service stopped working twice on me and I had to rebooted the box to get to work again.
- To get to the guide, you actually have to hit the "guide" button twice!!! I don't need to a sub-menu every time I want to get to the channel guide. This "feature" is driving me nuts.
- Scheduling recording shows is unreliable at best. The DVR has no way of distinguishing first-runs from repeats.
- The list of recorded shows had disappeared on me twice. The "MY VOD" menu will tell you how many shows you have recorded and how much space you have left. This would be helpful if you could see the list of recorded shows!!!
- Forget about the status bar that tells you how far into a recorded show you are. It has a mind of its own.
- The 30 second skip button is neat to skip through commercials, that is if you knew in advance how many commercials are there to skip through. But everybody should know that, right?
