The Bottom Line:
So far, I've enjoyed using this unit. It's a great low cost choice and proves to me Dual can make good, inexpensive stereos.
I bought this unit to replace a Sony in-dash MP3 player. The Sony had some features that drove me crazy. The Dual was the unit I passed up on the first go around. At the time, I didn't trust the quality.
I've now owned the Dual for over 6 months, and overall, I've been pleased.
The Dual provides very nice sound, clear display, and sports an attractive design. The price for the Dual cannot be beat. So far, the unit has been relatively trouble free. I love the rotary knob.
I installed this unit myself, and as with most in-dash units, the installation was straight forward.
Pros: Good sound, nice looking, rotary knob is top-notch.
Cons: The auxilliary input and the amp have proven to be less than noise-free. Alternator whine and ground loop noise has been prominent. A better ground site and a ground loop isolator have helped quite a bit. But I have found this receiver is somewhat more sensitive than others that have been installed in the same vehicle. I chalk it up to cheaper components.
The display does not dim with the headlights. This makes for a very bright dashboard at night.
Some of the menu buttons are not well thought out. For instance, in stereo mode, the memory buttons serve a dual purpose and as such, 5-6 are rendered useless. Very odd.
