Love My Rebel EOS T2

byLRai Jan 8, 2008
Pros Great photos and very easy to use. Fully manual or auto your choice.
Cons Takes a CR2 battery which can be hard to find if you travel abroad.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  It's the best little film camera I have ever owned and I love it. It gives me flexibility to shoot manual or auto. I highly recommend it.
I love film cameras. There is nothing like a good film camera to make taking pictures enjoyable if you like to take photos. I had never been able to afford a really nice camera but when the chance came to buy one it wasn't hard to choose which one. I knew alot about cameras since I had been married once to a photographer and we purchased many really good professional ones for him, but I never took the time to get myself one until last year. Now all my friends tried to talk me out of buying a film camera telling me that film is dead and digital is the only way to go, but I still like film.

Okay I gave in and did buy a Canon A560 Powershot and you can read that review if you like, but I still like film. I bought myself the Rebel EOS T2 because it gave me the flexibility to shoot fully manual or automatic. Canon also is very easy to use and the camera really doesn't weight alot so it doesn't require using a tripod for most shots. I also bought a long lens 75-300mm in addition to the lens that came with the camera a 28-90mm. Between these two lens I can get just about any shot I like from close up to wide angle.

I love the fact that I can shoot the camera with one hand since it is so light weight. The grip is a perfect fit for my hand and the camera makes taking pictures easy as it gives you all the info you need from shutter speed to ISO, and everything else you can imagine. The images are crisp and bright probably some of the best photos I have ever taken have been with this camera.

I pack the camera and extra lens in a Lowepro case for added protection. I wasn't keen on a smaller case since I wanted to be able to keep all my camera stuff together. Now it is bulkier to carry around than my little digital but if you like shooting film then I can highly recommend this camera. It has everything you could want if you choose to shoot fully manual or if you get lazy like I do sometimes and just want to make it into a point and shoot. I love having the flexibility to do either.

The only drawback has been the fact that it doesn't do great low light shots. My digital camera is much better at low light shots but for normal picture taking and just capturing the moment this camera is great. I have taken it with me to Kazakhstan and now China and I can't complain about a thing really except, the camera requires a CR2 lithum battery which can be a little hard to find in some places. The battery however does last a fairly long time. I have gotten about 15 rolls of 24 exposure film with one battery, which isn't too bad. My suggestion is make sure to pack extra ones no matter where you go.

So, if you like to take pictures and you are looking for a good film camera in this day and age of digital, try a Rebel EOS T2, it is a lot of camera for the buck and it won't let you down. It's a good pick for the novice picture taker or the hobby professional.
