The Bottom Line:  A nice entry level unit for someone just starting a system. Get one used for a good price. If you are really serious about it, get a new Eclipse 5445.
Eclipse, known for excellent sound quality did a good job with this unit. Sleek look and ease of use are great with the 3422. This great piece of hardware will look great in most any vehicle.

While the unit may not pack all of the features of more high end decks from other manufacturers, you will not be dissappointed by the good clarity of sound at all levels.

With 3 pre outs, this unit is ready to be externally amplified (like any decent system should be) especially since the built in amplifier leaves a bit to be desired. It should be noted however, that although the voltage on the pre outs is a bit less than the competition, Eclipse uses a lower ohm (55 ohm resistance) rating so it actually delivers more power and better/cleaner sound than even higher voltage competitor's models.

And if you are really into customization, this unit features an auxiliary input that can be used to hook up a CD changer, EiSERV, or even an iPod (as I did).

Other than these features, the CD 3422 is a basic slot loading CD player that will perform well when put to the limits and look great doing it... it is also unlikely to be stolen since it utilizes Eclipse's ESN Network.
