Acceptable...

Pros Inexpensive; Nice scan resolution
Cons Flat bed causes annoyance; slow printing at times
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great buy for your basic home office needs. Not the best choice for heavy use/high quality needs.
With the Epson NX400 printer, you get what you paid for. I bought this printer for my home office and it is acceptable for very basic printing and scanning needs. It is not acceptable for anything even slightly advanced (multiple scanning/copying needs, fast print production, high quality photos). I was attracted to the decent price and the amount of features offered for that price. While the features and cost were definitely a benefit, the quality is only mediocre.

FEATURES:

1. prints, copies and scans

This is the big selling point and yes, it does all of these things. The printing quality is ok, but be prepared to sit for awhile because it is very slow at times. For copying and scanning it is a bit of a pain. The flat bed is very difficult to get a simple piece of paper to stay still. The slight incline of the bed is just enough to allow the paper to slide off, so have some quick hands to slam the top shut before the paper slides away!

2. Direct printing from media cards or PictBridge-enabled digital cameras and phones

This is a nice feature to have. My only complaint is that I have some older memory cards from about 5 years ago that I was hoping to plug in here and print photos, however the slot does not accept my older cards. Works just fine with the newer ones, though.

3. Small LCD screen allows you to select, edit and print photos from memory cards and your computer

I do like having the screen. Not just for the memory cards/photos, but for all the other features. It's nice to be able to maintain the printer from the printer itself and not have to mess with the controls on your computer. I personally find it easier to maintain.

4. Flatbed scanner with 48-bit color; scan resolution up to 1200 x 2400 dpi

If you are able to get the photo/document to stay on the flatbed, the quality is very nice. I've scanned in multiple photos into photoshop to touch them up. There is also a feature that allows you to restore colors from older photos directly from the printer. This is a great feature! I personally touch my photos up on my own with other programs, but in testing this feature it works pretty well!

5. Prints on a variety of paper, including plain, matte and glossy, plus envelopes and transparencies; 120-sheet input capacity

I've printed with various paper (plain, resume, and photo) without too many issues. The printer will jam up on occasion, but what printer doesn't?

SUMMARY:

For all of my intents and purposes, this printer has worked fine. I would recommend this printer for general and basic printing needs. If you are looking for a high quality, all-in-one printer this is not your best choice.
