The Bottom Line:
If you're spending money to protect yourself, get the best. Two red light violations will pay the price difference.
If you are reading this, you already know that you are looking at what is more or less the most expensive detector on the market, so you know it's good; but is it worth it?
I have been using detectors in an overprotected area for the better part of 15 years. Mine finally went out and when I decided to replace it, I wanted the best. I looked in to the valantine, but read too many reviews stating the annotance of it's oversensativity. I want to hear when there is a cop, and I want it silent the rest of the time, especially when I have passengers.
The 9500ix does just that. After the first few weeks of use marking off with a few button clicks the very few standing false alarm locations, it more or less remains totally silent; until a cop starts looking my way, at which time, it overpowers my stereo and lets me know without a doubt, that it's time to slow down.
The drawbacks? I live in Chicago where there are a LOT of red light cameras, so every other intersection the thing is beeping at me about them. Also, if you're on the highway driving near or over a red light intersection the thing will beep at you. This is so annoying that I have stared to delete the redlight alarms that beep near the highway. It annoys me, but I paid to get the best, so it is doing exactly what it should be.
I'm not rich, I work hard for my money and this is a LOT of money to spend on a detector. But I need my license for work and can't risk it, and after having the extra sensativity, as well as the speed camera and red light camera locations, I can say without a doubt, it's worth the cost. Some things you can go cheap on...milk, t-shirts, food...but you don't buy the cheap parachute....you buy the best. This is no different.
Worth every penny, (although I wouldn't mind if it had been $100 cheaper.)
