The Bottom Line:
Great buy if you want a basic all-in one system for DVD, CD and radio. Buy it for the kids bedroom and you'll never see them again!
This system is a steal if you can get the price I paid ($119.00 + tax). One of the best looking and best sounding mini shelf systems I tried. Footprint is small enough that is should fit on most bookshelves. Light pine effect finish on the speakers looks good and the speaker grills are easily removed if you prefer. The controls on the unit don't feel as cheap as some other units I tried. The LED display is big enough to read but not oversized and the blue backlight effect can be turned off if you like. Sound is good on CDs and DVDs - tuner reception was weak in stereo but a mono setting is available which sounded better to me. Remote control has too many buttons and the volume controls are placed right at the bottom, not convenient for my big thumb. Sound tone can be altered by the preset tones for pop, jazz, classical etc and also the PASS control which simulates surround sound out of two speakers. There is also a bass control but no treble. Connection options are good, 2 AUX inputs, DTS, video, S-video and sub-woofer out.
Annoying features: The unit can only do one thing at one time so, if you alter a tone setting, the music stops momentarily. With power on (but no disc playing), I could not change cable TV stations without the picture looking fuzzy - I had to turn the unit off. The interface and the remote control have too many buttons for my liking.
