A Good Basic Alarm Clock.
Pros
Price, Ease of Use
Cons
No digital tuner, no battery backup
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Its a well priced alarm clock with a decent sounding AM/FM receiver that does its job.
General Electric makes all kinds of products, and has been around since the early 1890's. GE has been around for almost as long as Thomas Edison, so they know something about consumer electronics. They have more experience than any other company. Their products are of consistent high quality, and this alarm clock continues their legacy.
For $18 this is a great deal. It does not have all of the fancy "bells and whistles," that more expensive models have. However, it does a great job in waking you up and has pretty good sound for the AM/FM radio. This handsome black unit has dual alarms, a bright large LED display, analog tuner, and a big snooze button the top.(Useful when sleepy and fumbling around!) It comes with a standard 1 year comprehensive warranty from GE.
The clock is very easy to read in night and daytime conditions, and if its too bright you can use the auto-dimmer. People with poor eye vision will appreciate the size of the numbers. Setting the time and alarm is easy, as there are forward and reverse buttons to speed up the process. The buttons do not appear to be of cheap breakable material-they are quite solid and held up from many drops.(All accidental, of course!) The sleep with the radio playing feature is very useful-you can set the time up to 2 hours! The snooze time is preset at 9 minutes, which is average.
Here are my complaints, and they are minor. There is no battery backup and the tuner is analog. However, considering the price this does not do much to affect my rating of this great machine. It would be nice to have a digital tuner, but the analog works decently in finding stations. The knob twists effortlessly, and the readout is okay. Other than that I like this radio, as its cheap and durable. Its also reliable, and I've never had a problem with it or any other GE product. With all of its advantages such as the readout and time setting options, I recommend this as a great lower priced alarm clock. Of course I don't like being woken up by it, but the alarm isn't terrible. It starts out gradually and gets louder every 10-15 seconds. At least its not a piercing sound, but it does wake up a deep sleeper eventually! Its available at major discount retailers, such as Walmart and Kmart.
