Guys.....do your wife a favor and get her one of these. Keeping a happy woman in the kitchen is always good to have.
All year my wife has been nagging me about a under the counter radio. I bought her a boom box that sat on our portable dishwasher for months without being used. So to her amazement Santa Claus felt it in his heart to finally give her what she asked for. Santa got rewarded for his special present,(but that's another review).
I bought Jennifer the GE Slim Spacemaker 7-5295 CD Shelf System. Taking it out of the box it just seem so small to create enough noise for when she is cooking, but I was so wrong. I plugged the two and a half foot outlet cord in and hit my favorite station and the music bloated out like the band was in my kitchen. I would say this shelf system has the same similarities as the Bose Box System. The music seems to play evenly in the whole room instead of screaming out of the machine.
Installing:
For underneath your kitchen cabinets they give you a design template so all you have to do is make the markings where you are suppose to drill and proceed in doing so. Please make sure the cabinet is cleaned so you do not drill through a plate or a can of peas.
After drilling is completed you get your screws, washers and spacers from the bag and line them up with each hole, putting the spacers between the cabinet and the stereo. Tighten each screw until it is snug tight. The holes are already pre-drilled in the system and are threaded so the screw fits firmly in the hole. This shelf system is 12 and a half inches wide, while being 11 inches in depth and the total thickness of this stereo system is two and a half inches. Installing will take thirty minutes.
The Front Control Panel:
This consists of all the modes of playing and channel setting you get out of most stereos. This machine also has a Daylight Savings Time button to enable or disable when in that certain time frame. Above that is a timer to set the time on how long you want the music to play for. On the left side there is a switch to control the over the counter light. You can either have this light on hi or low. Low seemed to be the best to leave on as a night light for my boys. The bulb used is a 40 watt basic bulb.
In the back there is a battery compartment there is a time zone switch for the four different time zones we have in the U.S.A. selecting number one for Eastern Time and number four for Pacific Time in that order.
The TRK Search and Tune display will search for radio stations with the radio on or CD tracks when you are using the CD player. Below that is the Open/Close button for the CD drawer and just above all of that is the Pause/Pay button. There are two set buttons, one is for the clock and the other is for your radio stations. Setting stations and the Time will take 15 minutes.
When you have installed this GE Slim Spacemaker 7-5295 CD Shelf System just set it up and back up to the center of your kitchen. You will hear the precise clarity that you normally hear only in expensive home theater systems for less money. This shelf system comes with a multi-function remote control that can be used for both the radio and CD player also.
This system comes with a one year basic warranty. Overall it was a pleasant surprise by the quality of sound this system produces. We have it on in the morning to hear our local traffic and at night when we eat dinner next to the kitchen in our dining room. Jennifer is so very happy with this system that she has her own personal shelf underneath with her favorite cooking CD's that she can Be-Bop to as she is cooking.
