Don't buy it for the CD Playing ability

The Bottom Line:
Great unit if you do not want to use the CD player. A good sound when playing audio and has nice side features. CD player is undependable
We bought this for our remodeled kitchen and at first were impressed with the sound, the ease of use and even the light that came with it. It had a very wonderful design and took up very little space. Also we believed in the GE name and the manufacturer's models were not on the shelves.We installed this under a cabinet where we stored our glasses. The audio quality of this has been good. The volume could be kept low so that it would not be heard over the televisions in the other rooms but we could also crank it up and hear it through out our house. We did not use the CD player much as we had another CD player hooked up to our stereo. After we had this unit for over 15 months, the CD player started acting undependable, It would not recognize the CD in the player unless we unplugged the unit or used a CD lens cleaner. The CD unit had not been used more that 40 hours and now is inoperable.
We continue to use the radio which come in both AM/FM and the reception is very good. A remote came with it which we did not use too often as most of the kitchen activity was within arm's length. The light on the unit serves as a night light for us when the kids have overnight company and sleep in our living room. This unit also has a digital clock with a back lighting as well as a timer.
In dealing with GE/RCA/Thomson Service with questions regarding this product, be prepared to wait over two weeks for a response to your original email I had a difficult time researching a possible solution for my problem on their website.
The cost to fix the unit is more expensive that to purchase another model, which we will do but it will be a SONY.
