Can't find information in VCR User's Guide

Up until now, it's been wonderful. No problems,easy to use.

I bought this vcr a year or so ago and it's been wonderful... up until a week ago. The display shows "Err", the vcr shuts off and the tape ejects. Every once in a while I can get it to work, but I can't find any information on what is causing it and what I can do. I really hate to throw away a decent vcr, but I'm afraid I have to replace it.
