The need for a DVD player in a seldom used guest room prompted us to purchase this GPX D2817 DVD player. It is a basic unit for the sole purpose, for us, of occasional use.
It does have some basic features:
zoom
multi-language
multi-sub title
title search
still picture
slow motion. .
It comes with a basic 90 limited warranty. You know, defective parts; return to manufacturer, that sort of thing.
It is fairly light weight, only 5 lbs., and comes in a matte silver finish with LCD display. A full feature remote comes with the unit. The remote is a full size unit and the buttons are easy to read and operate.
Set up was really easy, plug the two cables into the TV and boom, it was a go. Cables for the unit and batteries for the remote are included with the unit, along with instruction manual.
This is a player only. Media accepted is DVD-R and CD-RW. It also supports DVD videos, CD videos and JPEG videos. The quality of playback, even on older DVD's is very nice with no distortion. I haven't noticed any interference from other electrical components nearby.
It is exceptionally easy to use and we have had no difficulties with it at all. Of course, this is not the newer and fancier units that are available today, but for the occasional use, it is a really decent machine. It would be a perfect addition to an area that has limited space, like an office or study area. It is a really nice size for a small area, measuring only 2" high by 10"W x 14"D. I really don't know how it would hold up to constant and repeated use or if it would bog down after a while.
Overall impression
So far we are very satisfied with this piece. It gives us what we purchased it for, and keeps guests entertained when they want to retire to their room. It is attractive and slim, using little real estate. Even the youngest, and oldest, guests are able to use it with no problem.
