It's about to be obsolete, but I still like it

Yes
The Bottom Line:
The GPX is a good buy. It'll soon be obsolete, but you might find a use for it. For the price, give it a shot. You won't be sorry.
OK, let's look at what we've got here. Black and white TVs are about as modern as ... well ... a Studebaker Lark, but for occasional use, such as during a power outage caused by a storm, small ones like the GPX TVP2 have long been a staple of many households when it comes to receiving important weather and information updates.
And for good reason.
First, there's price. The one I have cost less than $20 on sale, so I bought several for my family as Christmas presents. No one returned theirs, so I must've done something right.
Then there's quality. GPX is and has long been known as a "cheap" brand. However, after more than five years and a lot of what the NASCAR guys would call "beatin' and bangin'," the old thing still works great and looks pretty good. The clear plastic screen cover did get broken, but that was more or less a decorative thing, anyway. In my world, function comes before form.
Now, being an analog TV (with a fairly finicky tuner, although it isn't as bad as some I've tried), this set will become largely obsolete as of February 2009. It does still have a radio, and a handy audio/video input, so it could still be useful. We'll just have to see.
For a B&W TV, the picture is pretty good. During the last major storm, I was able to pick out the different colors on our local TV station's radar, although it everything was in shades of gray. The sound isn't anything to brag about, but for $20, if you expect Bose quality, keep dreaming. It does get a little buzzy if what you're watching (or listening to, in the case of the radio) has too much bass. Again, it's all in what you expect.
I didn't expect much from this TV, but I've been greatly pleased with what it's given me over the years. If you can find one (and they are out there), and you need a small video monitor, they don't come much cheaper than this. Give it a try. You might find it useful.
