The Bottom Line:
Spend the money for a more expensive product if you envision using it often.
I bought this as a cheap option to playing my non NTSC DVDs. My family mostly watches PAL format DVDs and this became the primary DVD player in our house, though we still used a different one for all our American DVDs. The player worked like a charm at first and we thought that we were getting a great little player. Then, soon after the 90 day warranty expired, so did the player. Not totally. It started as a little skip here and there. Then, progressed to complete interruptions in the movie and whole minute jumps followed by the movie having to be stopped and restarted (sometimes more than once). Then, it refused to read the DVDs altogether, giving me a "bad disc" error message, even on movies that it had played before and on completely new (completely undamaged, clean and unscratched) discs. At this point it didn't matter if the discs were foreign or American. Nothing would work. Should have spent the extra money on something that would have lasted me for at least a half year. A previous reviewer said that maybe the problems come from over-use of the player, which maybe true, since we used it every day, once a day. So, maybe, it would help to have it rest a bit and come into its own again. I just have a very hard time believing that there is any magical voodoo approach to fixing technology. Nor, do I believe that there should be.
