The Bottom Line:
If you want a good solid unit without spending the big bucks, this is the GPS for you. Middle of the road price, big unit features.
About 2 months ago I sold my eTrex Legend and bought the GPSMap 60C. I am happy I took the step ahead.
The unit fits nicely into the hand. Since the thumbstick has been removed, the GPS is now operated just as easily with the left hand as the right. The buttons have been moved from the side, all residing on the face of the unit, with the exception of the Power switch which is at the top.
The Screen is larger, and the maps seem much larger as a result. When you turn on the GPS, you will instantly notice the 256 color TFT display that is easy to see even in Daylight. Pressing the power button still toggles the backlight, however you can now adjust the backlight level.
Garmin included autorouting smarts in the gps which is absolutely a must if you plan on using it for driving in a strange city. Just enter where you want to go, and from where(if not your current location) and the GPS will guide you there. If you miss a turn the GPS will automatically find the next best route for you!!!! You will need to download maps from Mapsource to use this feature, but with the 56MB of memory for storing map data is plenty for almost any trip.
The gps automatically switches to night mode allowing you to view the screen without being blinded when you look back at the road. It's clear that garmin wanted to bridge the gap between their Outdoor GPS and their Driving aids. This unit works amazing in both senarios.
The gps targets on satelites quickly and maintains a good lock even in locations where my last units didn't. This could be due to the large antenna. Like my other garmin units the GPSMap 60C tells you what the accuracy is, which is a huge help when geocaching.
What I didn't like about this unit is belt clip. The back of the gps has a post that screws into the unit. The post is then clips into your typical plastic Cellphone clip. The break real easy and I almost lost the GPS once already. Garmin needs to develop a proper Neoprene carrying case Post-haste! Another beef is the location of the plug ins compared to the "post" this makes it next to impossible to find a usable a universal car mount.
