I just purchased this model after returning my Lowrance 3500c which malfunctioned after 4 months of use.
The screen is great, very legible, with the Blue Charts for all of America being loaded from the factory in the 2006 models. it makes the choice pretty obvious in my opinion as to what unit to buy. Tide tables, local marina's with numbers, suggested routes, best maps in the industry all things that make the garmin an obvious choice.
In addition this model has an internal antenna option, which in my opinion is one less thing to break. You can also buy a kit to link this to your PC for $60.
A chartplotter is a major purchase and when you depend on it as much as I do you want to be assured that it will function in all kinds of weather and will last the test of time, that in itself makes garmin the obvious choice.
