The Bottom Line:
If you can afford it, get it. This is a great unit for anybody to use
I read a lot of reviews before purchasing my first GPS, it was a Magellen Roadmate 800. Without going into detail (you can read my review of the 800) I returned it after 50 days.
The 2720 is so superior to the Magellen it isn't even funny.
The screen is very easy to see, even in bright sunlight. The touch screen is sensitive enough to do the job, and I had no problems with it. This unit has so many customizable features it will be able to satisfy almost anybody. What is displayed on screen is customizable, so if you want to see different information it only takes a minute to change the settings to display the desired information. Avoidance is another nice feature; you can specify an entire road or just part of a road to avoid, or even an entire area to avoid. A really nice feature is that you can set the speed that you normally travel on different kinds of roads.
The unit comes with two different mounting solutions; one is a fixed mount to your dash, the second is a beanbag with the mount in the middle so you can take it into different cars. This a a very nice feature, eliminating the need to purchase an additional mount.
When my Magellen broke I borrowed a friend's 2720. Without a manual I was able to use it with less than a minute to learn the menus.
The unit has the ability to speak the names of the roads coming up, which can be a great help. There are many different voices to select. However, only some of them have the TTS option, which is the Text-to-Speech.
