The Bottom Line:
An expensive paperweight. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on you again.
Based on a great experience with a Garmin Nuvi 680 that I bought about four years ago I bought my wife a Nuvi 265WT in February. It was a "refurbished" unit, sold as new with a one year warranty from Amazon. The first disappointment was that I was under impression that it spoke the street names. Not so, but my wife used it a few times locally and was satisfied. It didn't get a real test until we took a short road trip in June. On the way home we stopped for lunch, turned off the GPS, put it in its case and put it in the center console. When we turned it back on after lunch, the screen looked like an abstract painting...disappointment number two. Nothing would bring it back to life. The major disappointment, however, came when Garmin categorically refused to repair it under warranty. This unit had never been dropped, abused, exposed to the elements or baked in the widshield of a parked car in summer sun. When not used it was kept in a case, generally in a desk drawer. I was astounded that Garmin refused to honor a warranty claim on a four month old product, no ifs, ands or buts...sorry buddy, no warranty on displays...period, adios. I carefully read and re-read the warranty and see nothing that says this. Now I wonder what was refurbished, how well, and if refurbished units aren't up the new quality standards, why are they sold as new? I no longer trust Garmin or have confidence in their products. It's time to try TomTom.
