Recommended it? Yes
I am a daily user of GPSs.  I need them for work (biologist) and for play (birdwatcher). This machine is a completely different beast from all the other Garmins that I have owned (12xl, eTrex Vista, 76CSx). The touch screen interface takes a lot of getting used to. You need to press fairly forcefully. Would be nicer if it had a glass screen like an iPhone but it doesn't.  It would be more precise and you could use a lighter touch.

The big selling point for me was the ability to load 200 tracklogs into the memory. For my studies I need to put my study area on the screen in order to know when I am getting close to the edge of the plot.  The 76CSx only had room for 20.

Describing all the differences would take a full length article, but suffice to say nearly everything about this machine is better than all my older GPSs.

--Quick processor
--Larger internal memory.
--Profiles customized for foot navigation, driving, boating and geocacheing.  Basically with a few taps of the screen you can switch from one saved profile to another and total alters how the machine presents the data.  It is a very nice feature.
