2 mile radio range is total B.S. 1/2 mile at best and has allot of static noise at that range and that is on flat ground no mountains and few trees. I have been hunting all my life and dont need a GPS to find my way but bought 2 two be able to find my 16 year old son in the deep woods of maine where we hunt but the GPS to GPS locator only works if you have radio contact with the other GPS. As far as the way point finder being used by its self no problems yet? walked 1/2 mile in the woods at night and came back out easy. In the end i will have to carry my old reliable motorola talk abouts and the GPS when we go hunting. iam sure you can buy a good compass for the price of one of these units.
