Garmin 2730, Don't leave home without it

Pros Quick recalculation. Announces street names and not just distances.
Cons No bluetooth capability like the 2820. XM Setup a bit tricky
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Buy it and never get lost again. Garmin's other automotive products are excellent and would recommend any of them.
I recently purchased the Garmin 2730. The unit is the second Garmin unit that i've owned. i previously owned the Streetpilot III and felt it was time for an upgrade. The unit comes preloaded with all the maps for all 50 states and in most cases you'll get the Mapsource v7 so that you may install the software and make any necessary changes. The unit also has a built in XM satellte receiver and now with XM's NavTraffic function it makes it a great unit for any road warrior. The XM subscription is extra but unlike the Garmin 2820 you get the GXM 30 XM antennae and also the NavTraffic function is only available in select markets so check before you buy this unit if you want to use the traffic function.

The screen is easily readable in day and night time hours and navigating around the unit is done through touch screen. The four buttons that are on the unit allow you to quickly jump from the main screen to the map and other areas. The unit comes with both an adhesive and bean bag mounting system. I would recommend the beanbag as it allows for easier portability from one car to the next. The other recommendation i have is along with this unit i would also recommend getting a pad of egrips from egrips.com they will insure that the unit doesn't slip and slide all over your dash.

The unit's software is upgradable via a usb port on your computer, i'd also recommend downloading and installing WebUpdater from Garmin's website as it will make checking for and installing updates much easier. The unit also functions as a removeable hard drive to allow for adding MP3's and Audible audio books both of which the unit plays in addition to the XM radio. At first when plugged in you'll notice that there around 800 MB of free space on the device but if you clean out the audio books and the MP3's it will free up space. You can also remove some of the voices if you find you don't want them. The voice also announces street names and not just distance to next point which helps in keeping your eyes on the road when driving

The unit has exceeded my expectations and was definitely worth the price, it makes great leaps over the Streetpilot III and adds a lot of value and functionality. If you're looking for a device that will make you feel like a local wherever you go this unit is a must.
