The Bottom Line:
Garmin is the top of this field and this unit has been the most impressive to date. Just the bluetooth makes it worth it.
I started my Garmin experience after having experienced the Magellan as represented by Hertz "never lost" then the in-dash by MB in the ML and finally a portable owned by a buddy. This convinced me to purchase an i3. The i3 was great and portable but would not load but a few states at a time. Then a travel buddy showed up with a 680. Sweet machine, convinced me right out of the 660 purchase and into the 680. I added 4 Gig of SD for music and everything else was included at purchase. One year of MSN service is included which gives traffic alerts (major metro only), weather (again select cities), gas prices (regular unleaded only), and movie times (pretty worthless for me). I doubt I will renew the MSN, but the weather touch was nice particularly checking far end weather on the way to the airport.
The audio has two options, internal speaker or FM transmitter. I'd like the transmitter to be a bit stronger, but it has a wide selection across the band not just the low end. The Bluetooth connection is excellent. Noise cancellation is more than adequate and the attachment to the phone address book is great. Voice dialing works if the phone is so equipped. I have used 7 different phones successfully and using the car audio is super simple plus crystal clear. Using the onboard map and address book also provides dialing. the mapping for the US is as accurate as any of the maps provided on the net. I was not so impressed by Mexico or Puerto Rico. It still worked but only with coordinate information.
This unit only works on an internal battery, but the battery life is great. Over 4 hours consistently. It packs well and now has well over 150K airline miles.
