Great Sound - Very BAD Battery Life

The Bottom Line:
If you don't need more than 150MB of storage and not more than 3 hours of battery life, the DMP-310 is for you. Otherwise, avoid this product.
I received the Gateway DMP-310 MP3 player as a Christmas gift. Upon initial use, although advertised as a 256MB player, I could only download approx. 150MB of music before the unit would not accept any more data. I reformatted the unit and was able to gain approx. 20MB more of music storage. Upon contacting Gateway via email, their comment was that their DMP-310 player has internal programming that takes up a certain amount of the 256MB storage space. Although I do believe that the internal programming requires some MB of space, taking more than 100MB of data space seemed like way too much. The SECOND problem I have is that although the description for the DMP-310 states that battery life can be up to 10 hours on a fresh AAA battery, I've yet to get more that 3 hours before the unit stops and the battery indicatior registers a dead battery. Even AFTER placing a brand new, fresh battery in the unit, upon turning on the unit, the battery indicator shows that this FRESH battery is almost 1/2 depleted. Gateway has really missed the mark with the DMP-310 MP3 player. I would NOT recommed the Gateway DMP-310 MP3 Player to anyone, no matter how inexpensive it would be. It's just NOT worth the aggravation.
