Very good HD tuner

Pros Great reception, easy installation, perfect picture quality
Cons Software could be better
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great way to pick up your local HD stations and some "pay tv" stations and watch and record them on your PC.
I recently acquired one of these units and I love it! The box includes the software, the unit itself, all necessary cables, a remote control and even a carrying case.

Installation is very easy. Simply install the included drivers and software from the disc and then connect the unit to any available USB 2.0 port. Open the included viewing software, scan for channels and enjoy! Initially the software had a few bugs. There was an annoying click each time that you pressed a button on the remote and the software had a very slow reaction time to the remote commands. I downloaded an updated driver and software package from Autumnwave and it works flawlessly. Remote functionality is much improved and there are some added features as well. I especially like the option to set the video as your desktop image.

The software operates as a way to view the TV image as well as record the program and time-shift similar to any set top PVR. The scheduling software and time-shift function could be easier to access, but they work very well once you activate them. A dongle is also included to use the device as a video capture device from any composite and stereo analog audio source such as a VCR or video camera.

I recently had a layover in an airport and connected the device to my laptop with the included whip antenna and was able to pick up about 5 digital (HD) stations and close to 15 analog stations. Reception of digital stations seems to be much better than analog. Some premium stations also broadcast unencrypted "pay tv" that you can pick up with this device in some markets! Once I got home, I connected this unit to my HD antenna and can get all of my local HD broadcasts with perfect clarity.

This little tuner seems to have better reception than many tuners that I have seen in actual HD sets. All in all, I think that this is a great little product. If you want to view HD, but don't have an HDTV, this device will allow you to view HD on your computer with perfect clarity. Or if you simply want to record your favorite shows and don't have a PVR, this is the product for you!
