Four years later and it is still great

Pros Great price, great picture, sound is fine and lamp is owner-installable and reasonably priced.
Cons After four years of ownership I can find absolutely nothing to complain about.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Samsung builds a quality product. Why pay more?
Bought the Samsung HLR5067W in December 2004 from OneCall.com at a delivered price of $ 1774.00, which at the time was about $ 800 less than my local Best Buy was offering on the same model.
Then last Sunday the wife said the lamp 'popped like a flash bulb' and screen went dark. It kept turning itself on and off, on and off. Research was that it was trying to re-activate the lamp. A very good local TV repair shop had the right bulb, but not the lamp assembly, in stock. I removed the lamp assembly (takes 3 minutes with a small Phillips-head scewdriver and a flashlight), took it to the repair shop. It took her all of 3-4 minutes to replace the bulb for $ 150.14. Once home, I reinstalled the assembly (be sure to slide it all the way in to ensure connection), replaced the door (be sure it is tight against the safety switch or it won't turn on), plugged it in and VOILA. The picture is INCREDIBLE. I didn't realize that over time the lamp apparently loses some of its intensity....kind of like boiling the frog...the loss of brightness and sharpness was so gradual that we didn't notice it. For the $ 150 it might be smart to replace the lamp every year or two. PS: This set is on 14-16 hours a day, seven days a week.
