The Bottom Line:
The look, feel, and quality of this tv is great. It will be your own movie theater.
If you are in the market for a HDTV of this size, you are probably fighting two battles... Do you go with LCD, Plasma, DLP, or what? And... What brand/model?
Here is the reasoning I had behind my DLP purchase.
I picked a DLP (digital light projection) TV because of the following reasons:
1. Price - DLP is a less expensive.
2. Picture Quality - I prefer the quality of the picture that a projection tv has to offer. It is closer of that to a film, in my opinion. Also, DLP doesn't show individual pixels that are present in LCD and Plasma sets.
3. Long Life - I've seen to many LCD screen have dead pixels and I've read that plasma tvs quickly lose their brightness as the tv ages and within a couple of years the picture is not as bright and dull looking.
Ok, now for picking the model. Overall, I stood there in the store for the longest time to try to decide on which one looked the best out of the DLPs. I felt as though this Samsung had the best picture quality. Not to mention the fact that that actual tv set looked pretty nice as well. The layout also made sense.
Options wise, this tv offered a few important things. I wanted a ton of inputs. Because of the cost of a tv like this, I like to know it will be around for a while and can handle new things that come out. That is why I liked that this tv had so many inputs. Thus as you get new things or upgrade later on, you can still use this tv or don't have to use some sort of converter that degrades image quality. Also, this tv has digital and analog tuners, which is very useful in this time of everything is being switched over to digital age we are going through.
One selling point of this tv is that if the DLP bulb goes bad, Samsung made it easy enough for you to change the bulb yourself. So in the long run you can save money if you are keeping this tv for a long time, you won't have to pay to take it some place or have someone come over to fix it when the bulb goes down.
I've had the tv for about a year and it has held up will. I haven't had any trouble for the most part. Sometimes the tv guide feature gives me some trouble. It won't display the correct time of listing and sometimes it just magically resets itself. However, for the most part this feature is nice.
The picture quality is great. I do seem to notice a rainbow effect sort of look in movies and hdtv shows that are shown in very dark location but have spots of brightness. I don't know if this is the tv or it is me, as I have always been used to looking at CRT monitors.
The sound quality of this tv is great as well. It doesn't sound boomy or like it is being played to loud. I do wish though that the sound incremented in smaller amounts as I watch tv while others are sleeping and sometimes one volume notch down is to low and one notch up is to loud.
I've had a good experience with this tv and I will consider samsung in the future for a television. I won't for a dvd player, but that is a completely different review.
Warning: After owning a tv like this, going to the movies will never be the same.
