One out of many great new phones to come!

Pros -3.2 MP Camera -Great App Market -Brilliant web browsing -Gmail account synchronization
Cons -Slightly bulky and heavy -No alarm for calendar events -No camera flash
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  A great, tough, and reliable phone that will keep the tech fanatics interested with its constantly upgrade apps and also keep you close to the web at all times.
I have had this phone for about six months now and I can honestly say I love it! I have always been pretty hard on phones and that's why I have been constantly looking out for a phone that will stand up to my relentless attacks and also one that will do what I want (and in this case much much more.) I was ecstatic to hear that Google had finally entered the world of cell phones! Their operating systems online have always been so easy and efficient to navigate with Gmail and Google Chrome all of our lives can run a lot easy, so I expected this same performance with their new G1 HTC Smartphone with Android operating system. I want to state just a few things about this phone that I feel are important to start, and I will post another more complete review in the coming weeks. Let's start with some of the basics....

Basics: Size: 4.6 x 2.2 x 0.6 inches, IM/Text/Email, Talk time: up to 5 hours, 3.2 MP Camera, Standby time: up to 5 days, Video Playback
Features: Touch Screen, One-Click Google Search, Bluetooth, 3G network and Wi-Fi access (web browsing)

Touch Screen/Keyboard:

The G1 come with 2 different ways to operate the phone. The first is the heat-sensitive touch screen. This touch screen is very nice and receptive to the touch, but not to "touchy" that you will press things you didn't mean too. (As you may often do with an iPhone/iTouch) You are able to drag you finger on the main screen to reveal 2 more frames of space for shortcut apps. There is all a pull-up tab that brings up all your downloaded apps. The touch sensitivity for texting and otherwise maneuvering around the phone is also very good. The on-screen texting format is always in "qwerty" form, but it can be switched form upright to horizontal by turning the phone to the corresponding position. There is also a slid open keyboard on the phone that can be found under the screen if pushed forward. This keyboard has actual press buttons and is also in "qwerty" format, but can control many other aspects of texting with different shortcut buttons i.e. cut, copy, paste, tab, menu, shift, search, and enter.

App Market:

The App Market is a factory built in app that allows you to search for new apps and games. The new G1 update made for a much more user-friendly Market that allows you to search specific apps by using keywords or it also breaks it down into 3 different categories to navigate more easily to your desired app.

Apps: This category is also broken down into many other subcategories from comics and communication to travel and tools. Some of these apps such as Google Maps now utilize your GPS feature and can give you turn-by-turn directions to any destination.

Games: This category consists of all game types. You can make sure to be getting a quality game OR app by looking at previous users customer ratings. These are usually very accurate to tell you what you're getting.

T-Mobile: The T-Mobile category is just a way for T-Mobile to inform you what they think are good choices for different apps.
Apps and games are available for FREE and others that cost money.

Camera/Camcorder:

The G1 has a 3.2 mega-pixel camera and also video playback. This camera takes excellent pictures and video and can be opened by using a shortcut button on the side of the phone. The camera does have an auto-focus that works great! While in the camera mode you can easily toggle between camera and video modes, and from the same screen can then send (via Bluetooth, Gmail, MMS Message, or directly to your YouTube account), delete, set as contact picture or wallpaper, and play.

Battery Life:

The battery life can vary depending on many things. This can depend on things such as: screen brightness, Auto-sync frequency, Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi being set to either on or off. With all these things set to a minimal level though you can have about 5 hours of talk time and 5 days of standby time.

Price:

Depending on your T-Mobile plan this can also vary, so I will comment on the actual price not including upgrade discounts. As a new customer you can buy 1 of 2 plans... The first is the "Even More" plan that comes with a 2 year contract with some additional discounts. With this plan you can buy the G1 at the retail price of $369.69, but then have an instant discount of $270 bringing the price to $99.99. The other plan is called the (cleverly enough) "Even More Plus" plan. This plan does not require a contract and comes with a monthly pay plan, so therefore you pay for the phone up front for the retail $369.99. I am getting this information straight from the T-Mobile website (www.t-mobile.com) and I say this because if prices change from this it is how the cell phone companies work with their hidden charges and random fees. I can't stand it, but I hope that my review has been helpful and I will post a more complete sequel in the weeks to come. Remember to BUY SMART AND INFORMED!
