The Bottom Line:
My final recommendation is that this is the perfect phone for the young and old! A
Me and my husband both needed new cell phones and I shopped around for about 2 weeks. After looking at the specs and reviews on just about every cell phone that's being sold right now we were debating between the G1 and the iPhone. Thank goodness we chose the G1!
This phone is perfect. It was beyond easy to set up and has just about any feature you could ever want in a cell phone, including a FULL keyboard (which was the deciding point for us).
The main con on this phone that I seen in other reviews was the battery life. We always make sure to charge our phones overnight and when not in use. We have had no issue at all with the battery life. When you plug in the phone to charge it the screen will show the available percentage of battery left, I've never seen it under 25% - and that's after us using it all day!
The best thing I've found is the Marketplace on the phone. You can choose from HUNDREDS of applications to download onto your phone. The majority are FREE. That's right, I said free! There are some more "advanced" and specific applications and games that you have to pay for - but I've found everything and anything that I've wanted to download has been free! The downloads are quick and easy. I've downloaded quite a few applications and games and still have a TON of memory left on the phone! What a great option - you aren't stuck with what the company wants to put on your phone for free - YOU get to choose what you want!
The touch screen is great. I've had no issues with it at all. Some phones that we demo-ed had very touchy screens where you had to be careful on where and what you pressed - now with this phone. It's just a natural touch and it does the job!
You have three "main" screens. I have my applications that I use alot on one, my main screen has my contacts button - account info application - a clock - and my "faves" button on it and my last one is the Google search bar.
The Google search bar is great. Just start typing and press enter and boom - you're on Google! QUICK internet uploads. I haven't had one issue looking at any website. Also - the Google search bar has a voice option - you can press it and SAY what you want to search for instead of typing it and it picks it up! I don't use it much because I'm a texter and can type fast on the keyboard, but my husband loves being able to just say what he wants to search for.
The pull out keyboard is very sturdy. Some phones feel flimsy and you think they will break easy - not this phone. It seems extremely well made. No flimsy parts at all!
Volume is great, screen brightness is great, speaker volume is great, memory is huge... I can't think of anything bad to say about this phone!
All in all - it's well worth the money. If you want a phone that you can text, talk, browse the web, and much more - then this is the phone for you!
