Solid Performer

Pros EZset, durable chassis, powerful processor, many connections.
Cons Gold connections would be nice--an LCD remote too for a receiver so expensive
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This receiver (and other HK receivers as well) will last you for practically a lifetime. Harman Kardon has a great reputation and excellent tech support--you won't regret your purchase
I've had this AVR525 for the past 6 months, and i can tell you that it is AMAZING.

1) EZset
The EZset system uses a microphone on the end of the receiver remote to be able to automatically sense all the sound pressure levels of all the speakers in the room and automatically adjust volume levels. It only takes a minute at most, and it works EVERY TIME

2) Wattage
The majority of receiver manufacturers do a very good job of boosting their wattage ratings without having anything to back it up with. Although this receiver only features 75 watts per channel, it seriously outperforms any 100/watts x 5 receiver from companies such as Sony. In fact, i recently talked to a circuit city representative who pitched the lowest harman kardon model (with 40 watts) against a whole line of competitors, from companies like onkyo, sony, and yamaha. Tests showed that the 40 watt harman was able to outperform all the others in volume and clarity. AMAZING.

3) Weight
The weight of an electronics product can often be a good way to judge the quality. The construction of the AVR 525 is solid and durable, and the heaviness of the machine can help to reduce the chances of any potential vibrations.

4) Processor
The processor on this receiver is more than adequate. It features THX decoding and double room management, not to mention an equalizer that works. I recently went to my friend's house to explore a new sony receiver that featured 27 different sound modes, supposedly tuned to your listening environment. I went home and i tried the three modes that the HK provided: vMax, Logic7, and Prologic2--and it was much, MUCH better than anything i had ever heard.

5) Connectivity
Though this receiver does feature nickel-plated connections, it doesn't disappoint. Sound quality is excellent even with the abscence of gold connections, and there are more than enough ports to connect everything--this receiver even features several high-bandwidth component video outputs.

This receiver is a solid performer with great sound, power, and durability.
