I got a refurb on ebay direct from HK. I would recommend this to anybody. Great prices on the best products.
I bought this receiver after reading a lot of reviews and after talking with some friends "in the know". I must say that even with all the research and having read the glowing reviews I was still completely unprepared for the sonic excellence the AVR 245 produces.
I bought it mainly for all the AV features and bought HK hoping it would drive my Bose 301s with a little more authority than my old receiver. After experiencing the clarity and power (seems much more powerful than my previous 100 watt per ch pioneer) I recommend this unit for how good it sounds.
Music never seems too loud even when their is blood coming out of your ears (slight exageration). Seriously, I have a Bose system in my Cadillac and it too would leave your ears ringing after a long drive but you were simply enjoying the music, it never seemed too loud. Zero distortion.
BE CAREFUL The music sounds so good you keep wanting to turn it up and you will never get any sort of sign that it is too loud, even all the way up to full volume (except the neighbors will call and either tell you to turn it down or request a song).
If you are in the market DO NOT BUY SONY ( except perhaps an ES model, but they cost more), DO NOT BUY YAMAHA, PIONEER, KENWOOD. If you do you will never know what you are missing.
Buy a Harman Kardon and smile!
