FL *8450*
Pros
"soft" sound, can be found for much less than MSRP
Cons
still more $ than similar ones (tho' justifable)
Recommended it?
Yes
There's not place for the 8450, so I'm putting it here.
Synopsis: A terrific, well-made carousel that really "sweetens" digital recordings.
I have this paired with an h/k AVR25 MK2. It's a great setup and they complement each other well. The 8450 is a great piece of equipment, with a strong, heavy anti-resonant chassis - much heavier & sturdier than any mass-market unit. The 3D bitstream gets that much more detail out of the recordings and the high-quality converter takes out some of the "coldness" that digital recordings have.
The remote is a bit cheap feeling, but all the functions can be controlled by most other universal remotes, including the great h/k receiver ones. For some reason, it is always being sold a serious discount. Probably because it occupies a weird price point - more expensive than other carousels, but only slightly cheaper than the mega changers (?).
Overall, a fantastic unit. Match it to the right amp-preamp/receiver and it'll do wonders.
