these speakers are pretty good, i am not sure of how many watts they produce. each unit has a green light on it and the right speaker has a tone control and a volume control. the the speakers are slightly tilted back so that they are aimed at the ears. i have three sets of speakers in my room. one set came from my old packard bell. they were monitor mounted and so i turned them on their sides to be aimed at my bed. i also have a pair of altec lansing to compensate for the loss of bass in my hk-19s. the hks don't give me enough bass, though. it was easy enough to install them. (they came with my dell and they are black) the cord for the left speaker is long enough for me to stretch it around the back of my desk so that both of the speakers are sitting on the edges of my desk. there are three wires going to the back of the right speaker. there is the input wire which is permanently attached, the power input, and the cord to the left speaker. the cord that goes into the left speaker is permanently attached and the back of the right speaker is labeled, so installation was a breeze. the space the speakers take up doesn't bother me, but i wish the cord was a bit longer so that i could move them over a little. overall, the speakers don't give me enough bass for the punk and hard rock songs i listen to. if you are getting a dell that include the Harman Kardon HK 19s, i would advise buying another set of speakers with a subwoofer if you want something that thumps more.
