You'll Be Surprised

Pros Sounds pretty good especially for small speakers, highs mids and lows represented
Cons Sound gets lost in a larger room
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Represent themselves for the money they require. A respectable product, but don't ask too much - remember the price.
Honestly, ones satisfaction with these small PC speakers depends on the users needs and expectations. I received them three years ago as part of a cheap (and it was cheap then) Dell home PC package. Since then I have lived in four different places and have enjoyed them to varying degrees.

They are seven or eight inches tall, four inches wide and five inches deep. The controls consist simply of volume and tone knobs with a 1/8 inch headphone jack. The speakers are covered by mesh, but look to be three inches across and the front has a half inch port for lower range tones. The main speaker is powered via AC unit and plugs into the PC tower with an 1/8 inch plug that can conveniently be plugged into a Discman or other auxiliary unit if desired. The main speaker is automatically connected to the 'slave' speaker. And oh yes, they are B E I G E.

Physical descriptions aside, the sound is better in small rooms. Having lived in larger places in the past, I never really listened to them, as the sound was lost over more than a few feet. The economy being what it is now, I live in a house that used to be a one car garage where these speakers fill every corner. Don't get me wrong; every now and then I take my CDs to my bud's house and rock out on the Bose speakers (which, consequently are the best ever made), but in the present space they sound great.

Given Winamp or other decent equalizer is being used, the high range is adequate - nothing is left to be desired. The mids are ok, these are $25 speakers after all. The lows are present, but not in a physical way. They don't shake the room, but the actual notes and phrasing in a bass line can be easily heard and appreciated. The speakers have a unique way of producing a range of sound.

I have to admit that I have not been listening to too much rock or hip hop with these, and I have a feeling that it is not a good idea. "Photograph" by Def Leopard sounds bad, but the Strokes sound fine. I don't want to say too much and mention that Mazzy Star sounds fine, so I will just summarize and say that $25 is a good price for these.
