The Bottom Line:
Don't waste your money, this cd player is totally unreliable!!!
I bought this cd player to match my new HK3480, I had trouble with it in 2 days after getting it home, it kept scanning in random mode and wouldn't open, I was informed to unplug the unit and plug it back in, no such luck, I sent it back and got another one, this one I had for 3 days the sound was terrible and it would only play cd 2 & 3 in the random mode, I am sending it back and re-connecting my Onkyo DX-C390, the sound on the Onkyo is far superior, I will never buy another Harmon Kardon product, I have been a faithful HK owner of many previous models including my fl8300(still works perfectly) this FL8385 is problematic to say the least and by far their quality has fallen off since I purchased the fl8300, I would recommend you spend your money on another cd player unless you like to spend your time sending your HK fl8385 back on a routine basis, I understand that problems do occur with electronics but to get 2 brand new units in 2 weeks and have to send them back for different problems is unacceptable from a company with a good reputation as Harmon Kardon, I sent HK an e-mail when I had problems with my first fl8385 three weeks ago and as of this writing I still haven't gotten a response from Harmon Kardon, I wonder if there is a reason why they don't respond? I will never again buy a Harmon Kardon product in the future.
