The computer is very hot
Pros
Tech support hours are good and the support has been responsive at responding to issues
Cons
Hot, melting, poor stylus tracking, slow to convert to tablet mode, generally slow
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
It's a cheap tablet. Tablets are a good technology. But you also get what you pay for.
- The computer is very hot. Friends comment on it. It's uncomfortable at times when it is on your lap.
- My power transformer melted. It smoked. It was dangerous. And then HP only sent me half of the cord and I had to buy the other half.
- Recognition of the stylus is not accurate at the edges of the screen. In order to move the scrollbar on a maximized window, for instance, I often need to click the stylus on the plastic of the screen itself.
- It is slow to convert the laptop from keyboard to tablet mode. You swivel the screen and lock it into place and then it takes a good 10 seconds for the laptop to be functional again after the computer reorients the screen. This is an embarassing lag when I'm switching the laptop into tablet mode during a conversation to show someone something.
- The laptop is slow to start. Even though it has a dual core processor and 3GB or RAM it takes longer to start or resume from hibernation than the Mac computers of friends.
- The audio quality seems fine for a laptop, but it is noticeably worse than the previous HP laptop that I owned which was excellent- The shift key on the keyboard is too small - it is half the size of a normal key. You get used to it, but I think it puts extra strain on you as you type.
