The Bottom Line:
Really cheap, that's why I got it, but it has turned out to be a gem.
Fantastic, wireless, all in one printer, scanner, fax for an amazing price.
Set up was quick using the CD that came with the printer. I had read a lot of bad reviews of this printer and was hesitant upon installation but anyone with any fears should get over them quickly once they run the CD and they are on line. I ran into one problem. While running the install wizard it stated that it could not find the printer. There is a little button on the printer with a symbol for wireless. Once you push the button it turns on the wireless for the printer and your computer can find it.
The printer is compatible with windows 7 and earlier versions as well as mac. There are CD's for each of these platforms.
The machine is very compact. I'm guessing on the measurements so don't hold me to them. Its about the length of a legal sheet of paper and slightly wider so about 14"x18". The height is about 7". It is very heavy! The paper feeds in via a tray that attaches to the front and the prints come out back on top of the feed tray. It's a little weird but most likely to save space that's why it is done that way.
It uses 2 ink cartridges. 1 black and 1 color. They are very expensive. The black is @$25.00 the color @$30.00. I print 99.9% black so it's good that you can choose your print ink, either black or color. The salesperson at the store told me that I would have to run the color ink occasionally so that it wouldn't dry up. The print quality is very good. Installation of the cartridges is a little weird. You stick them in and sort of push them up. I messed up the first time but got it right the second time. Once you install them correctly the machine swallows up the cartridges. I don't know where they go but when I opened up the cover to make sure that they were installed correctly, they were gone. This scares me a little as I wonder if this will be a problem in the future.
The paper feeds smooth. I read some reviews that the paper jams no matter what kind of paper you use. I haven't had that problem.
Scanning is nice quality. It has a flatbed scanner that you lift the lid for and place the material on the glass. Push the button and your good. It also has a top feed for paper if you want to collate or just don't feel like lifting the lid. You can enlarge or shrink your images.
It is very easy to change the settings. There is 1 button for the settings it has a picture of a tool on it. You push that and it gives you options all you have to do is follow the prompts as they are given to you one at a time and then push "OK" after you have completed the prompts. Things are so easy today and so intuitive that you don't have to read. Just for the record, I'm not a fan of not reading directions. I have not used the fax yet. I did not hook it up but I am hoping to do it shortly. I would like to replace my old fax machine that uses thermal paper but I have so much thermal paper that I feel obligated to use it up before I toss it. When I hook up the fax I'll update.
My only complaint is the noise that it makes. It sounds like it's grinding vegetables or making juice. I'm used to using laser printers so maybe it's just the nature of ink jet printing to make so much noise. If you are an ink jet user you can decide for yourself as I have no experience with the noise of an ink jet.
I am very happy with my purchase.
