The Bottom Line:
LOVE my HP scanner.
UPDATE: April 2005 Posted first in April 01: When my husband became an independent contractor doing commercial building inspections we needed a scanner.
I first bought a brand other than HP. I could not get the thing to work. In defense of that particular scanner I am all thumbs when it comes to anything mechanical. I returned the scanner and upon the advice of my sons bought my HP.
The HP device comes with a simple folded sheet of clearly understandable instructions. Set up of the scanner was as simple as insert the CD and wait for the computer to tell me what to do. I watched the screen, followed the prompts and within moments, Voila, we were up and running and scanning photographs, diagrams, book covers, certificates. You name it, scanned.
Scanning my husbands diagrams and photos is as painless as was the set up, lay the page or picture on the scan bed, click the scanner prompt on my monitor and away we go. The scanned material appears on my monitor desktop as a bitmap.
The scanner has worked like a charm during this past year, and I have scanned dozens and dozens of photos and diagrams for my husband's business activity. After sending the first scan to both my kids they were super impressed with how clear the pictures appear. Both agree the scanner 'must be a really good one, Mom.'
The scans are a little slow to appear, but for a machine which costs only $99 and WORKS I am well pleased. When we decide to upgrade I will get another HP.
It is now April 2005 and my little $99 scanner continues to work like a champ. I continue to be well pleased. I have scanned innumerable photos, diagrams, and other documents over these last four years. The scanner continues to scan a tad slowly, however it shows no sign of stopping. Until it does I will continue to use it.
