It's the deluxe software package and user-friendly touches that set the HP SureStore CD-Writer Plus 8100i apart from the growing pack of CD-RW drives. But that's not all. The 8100i, Hewlett-Packard's latest foray into the world of CD-RW, offers the best performance of all the other drives I have used.
Iced with additional software Designed with the business user in mind, the 8100i comes complete with all the CD-RW software basics from Adaptec, including Easy CD Creator and DirectCD, and a few exclusive extras from HP. Bundled along with the Adaptec utilities is HP's own Simple Trax, an efficient backup and archiving utility that enables you to quickly and painlessly transfer any file or folder to a disc, and then create a Windows Explorer-like directory on your hard drive for easy organization and tracking. Another HP exclusive is Disaster Recovery, which lets owners store essential files on a recovery CD in case of a hard drive failure.
HP is also offering a home version of the 8100i, which features all of the aforementioned software plus a few more creature comforts, such as Photo Organizer for creating family-photo CDs or vacation records, and Corel Print House presentation software.
Setup is easy! Like most of the internal EIDE drives I have used, the 8100i is a breeze to set up and goes the extra support mile by providing an easy-to-follow installation poster to get you through the process without incident.
