The Bottom Line:
An inexpensive alternative to the Iphone and external hard drive that can hold up to 16 gb so far and maybe even more.
I got the HP Ipaq 110/111 Pocket PC because I wanted the ability to access WIFI. My cellphone company is forcing us the data/internet package if you get a smartphone. There is a lot of WiFi around so no way! It also helped that I got the Ipaq for free.
I love the IPAQ because it has Windows Mobile 6.0 and I am familiar with it so it is easy for me to navigate. It is easy to install 3rd party applications, such as games, my preferred mobile video player such as TCPMP and many more. The screen is pretty big so it is nice to watch my videos or read my comic books on it. There is an external storage – SD card. So far I have gone up to 16 GB without any problems and can also use SDHC (high capacity)The WiFI can easily detect networks around. It is touch screen. The alarm/calendar/appointment thing is nice. When your appointment comes up, the pocketpc opens itself from sleep/standby mode and warns you. It has all the PDA things you'd expect: calendar, contacts, alarm, etc.
My pet peeves are that it’s not really a computer so you can’t have several applications on your screen that you can easily access. Example, I have the comic book reader open. If I want to go to internet explorer, I’ll have to close the comic book reader program then open internet explorer. You don’t have a bar at the bottom with all the different programs you have open. You have to hold the Ipaq at a specific angle when watching your video to avoid screen glare. The volume isn’t as strong as I want it to be. HP isn’t updating this product anymore which is disappointing. I tried to update to Windows Mobile 7.0 but it wouldn’t let me =( But so far I can still go to websites with no problem. There is a program called Blue Tooth Manager installed. It detected my Samsung Blackjack 2 with no problem. You just have to use the "generic" option if you cannot find your phone brand.
