I used to have an old parallel flatbed scanner from visioneer. It was huge and heavy. That one was bought years back. The USB Technology is making everything easier even to a flatbed scanner. Pros Acceptable hardware scanning performance.
Cons Poor software. Hardware reliability less than average.
Recommended it? Yes

I purchased the HP 3970 as a refurbished unit, although it appeared be new since it came in the original packaging (maybe overstock/clearance from HP?), a couple of years ago for an extremely low price. It replaced an ancient Plustek 9600 scanner.

There is a bug in the installation... Read full review »

Survived a Dog Attack

bypeter421 Sep 6, 2009

Pros DURABLE, cheap, compact, light-weight, works well.
Cons Not satisfied with slide & negative scanner, but that could be software
Recommended it? Yes

Everyone is correct. It is cheap, compact, light-weight, & it does the job. The other night I came home & found my scanner on the floor amidst a mess that looked like the place had been ransacked. My dog, a puppy brain with the jaws of a small bear, had done the dastardly deed. I fully expected... Read full review »

Great Scanner, if you can get the light bar to turn on

bybobee1238 May 31, 2005
2 Helpfuls 3 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great scans low price
Cons Light bar stays on most of the time, except when you need it to.
Recommended it? No

Bought this scanner at walmart because I had great luck with hp scanners in the past. This scanner works great, except you have to click the preview button several times to get the light bar to come on. I will be selling it on ebay. I plan on buying a Canon scanner next. Read full review »

Pros Scans Good
Cons Died 2 months before warranty up - just try to get help from HP!
Recommended it? No

Scans Good For Photos - software easy to use - sometimes stalls - negative features not so good. Due to my hours of time trying to get some help when it died, I won't buy HP again. Read full review »
