HP 2840 Horrendous toner, drum costs

Consumables will bankrupt you.
I'm a HP fan. I currently have two HP 3380 All In One's Black Print. I decided to go to colour and chose the 2840 to print out certain insurance brochures and documents. The print outs were great. Re-calibration was irritating. One review mentions the 2840 sounding something like a wild weasel in a cardboard box. It is loud during printing, but you do get used to it. The Read Iris Pro software was great too.
The main problem- how fast you run out of drum life and toner! I looked at how expensive the consumables were and decided to buy a new machine ($999. CAD) and sell the old machine. It worked, it cost me less to buy this way, then simply buy the toners, drum. Then I ran low again on drum life and toner. I couldn't keep buying and selling. The drum was over $200. The toners were $100 or so each and I think there's five of them! I got the second new 2840 on sale at $750.00. Even when I started to ration the colour on the new machine by printing mostly black copies, the drum life and toner still got used up real quick. Much quicker than my 3380 toner. I decided to sell the second 2840 and reduce my losses.
If you are printing on a 3380 all day long, even in back ink, the toner and drum replacement cost is horrendous compared to a straight black ink laser. Colour is nice but it's not worth it.
