The Bottom Line:
Not recommended: critical bugs and poor color-printing quality.
I do not recommend this product. I encountered too many critical bugs. Many forums suggest this is a Vista OS compatibility issue.
My system: Dell XPS laptop, Windows Vista (32-bit) OS, wireless network. No problems with my previous laser printer and scanner.
Black and white printing: average quality, but slower than printed specs (~6 ppm for text documents)
Color printing: poor quality (colors not overlapping exactly, color produced is not consistent, low resolution even when set on high quality).
Black and white copying: very good
Scanning: worked intermittently (~5% of the time), required the HP Toolbox software.
HP Toolbox (software that runs all functions, required for scanning, not required for printing/copying): obtained a Vista-compatible version from technical support, critical bugs (frequent crashes on loading, printing, and scanning)
Customer Support: I spent hours going through the HP online technical resources trying to resolve the issues myself. I had to take time off work to get live support (phone only, no online chat) which is only available during business hours. I spent three days on the phone (7h/day): waiting to speak to service reps, following live instructions, getting transfered to more knowledgeable technical staff, following their dead links.
Paper trays: low-capacity letter-size paper tray (holds ~200 sheets), legal-size paper loaded on extendable sheet feeder tray
Operation: noisy, frequent and noisy calibrations (6+ times/day, apparently can be set through HP Toolbox if you can get it to launch.
