Avoid this printer at all costs!

byposylane Jun 27, 2008

Pros An all in one color laser at a reasonable cost
Cons Printing costs are outrageous and HP?s idea of customer service is a complete joke.
Recommended it? No

Our recent experience with HP has been shockingly bad. For those not familiar with us, we are a small print shop in Downtown McKinney. We purchased the HP 2810 about 5 months prior to this incident to print stationary as part of our business. My complaints about the 2840 had been it prints a little... Read full review »

Good Printer, bad software

bygvwrighty Oct 18, 2006

Pros Is an all in 1 Printer and works well while it works.
Cons Scanner Software stops after a while requiring reinstall, fax doesn't work overseas,...
Recommended it? No

This printer is like most HP equipment, well built and solid.

All functions work pretty well, but color printing is slower than quoted and it is noisy. Having a machine that does printing, copying, faxing and scanning is great, in theory, the problem is that in order for it to do all of... Read full review »

Not Recommended - Too Many Bugs

Pros aesthetics
Cons critical bugs, poor quality color printing
Recommended it? No

I do not recommend this product. I encountered too many critical bugs. Many forums suggest this is a Vista OS compatibility issue.

My system: Dell XPS laptop, Windows Vista (32-bit) OS, wireless network. No problems with my previous laser printer and scanner.

Black and white... Read full review »

HP 2840 All-In-One.... One Year Review...mixed

Pros Print quality, Scan feed & simple networking setup
Cons Extremely expensive ink and imaging drum. Bloated software package... Multiple All-In-One...
Recommended it? Yes

We purchased this model for one of our branch offices a year ago. I set it up as a network install, and the physical installation of the machine was easy. If you have read any of my other reviews, I try not to get into every function, like a manual or sales presentation. I try to stick to things... Read full review »

Satisfactory

Pros print quality
Cons ink too expensive, somewhat noisy, doesn't scan so easily
Recommended it? No

I bought this all-in-one for my home office as I have large volume of printing for several types of businesses I run. Not that it's slow, but it doesn't print as fast I thought it would. It also often "callibrates" out of the blue which is somewhat noisy. Also, it seems I have difficulty every time... Read full review »

Pros prints reallly nice quality, scans well, faxes well
Cons doesnt have just a few issues, has the whole subscription. unreliable.
Recommended it? No

it looks good and does print wonderfully. HOWEVER, it calibrates for no good reason all the time, prints , then pauses for oh 3 or 4 minutes, it basically just sucks.

We are on our 3rd printer (they had to send us two replacements) because they were just having SO many issues. Now we are... Read full review »

Horrible Color Printing!!

bycymbalzzz Oct 3, 2006

Pros Easy set up. Networked via ethernet to wireless router with no problem.
Cons Color printing is horrible. Saturation askew; contrast off; midtones/highlight/shadows...

I bought this to try to consolidate and update all of my office equipment (color laser / fax / B&W laser / scanner). After owning a Konica Minolta 2300W and being pleased with its color printing, if not totally pleased with the machine overall, I felt certain that this unit would do the trick --... Don't buy it

Pros usb connection? Not much on the pro side
Cons loud, functions don't work properly
Recommended it? No

One of the big reasons I bought this printer was because it allowed me to copy a document into an email or folder as a pdf right from the printer. This function occassionally, doesn't work at random times, and wastes more time than it was supposed to save. I've spent dozens of hours with tech... Read full review »

HP 2840 Horrendous toner, drum costs

bybroker Jun 17, 2008
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great colour and software
Cons Horrendous consumable costs, Just printing black still uses a lot of drum and toner life.
Recommended it? No

I'm a HP fan. I currently have two HP 3380 All In One's Black Print. I decided to go to colour and chose the 2840 to print out certain insurance brochures and documents. The print outs were great. Re-calibration was irritating. One review mentions the 2840 sounding something like a wild weasel in a... Read full review »

We bought the HP 2840 all-in-one color laser about a year and half ago for a small office, and while the quality of copies and printing has remained good, it eventually succumbed to the Hewlett-Packard curse of an unsolvable problem.
It incessantly wants to "recalibrate", as in make 6 copies,... Read full review »
