Solid versatile stand, but buggy firmware

Pros Solid base construction with many mounting and adjustable settings make this monitor very versatile.
Cons Cheap control panel buttons and buggy firmware in some units.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:

A good choice for desktop publishers, or accountants that like the ability to rotate their display, but delicate buttons may not be suitable for all environments.

The organization I work for purchased a large quantity of HP L2045 monitors monitors for use in an office environment, and overall they have been somewhat of a nuisance.  Many of these units have had bugs in the firmware, causing the monitor to freeze up, the only way to proceed is to disconnect the power cord and plug it back in.  Other units also have had blank white screens, and the power saving 'feature' of these monitors are very agressive, only giving you a few seconds before going into a standby mode, which can be annoying for people trying to repair computers, or those who change screen resolutions alot.  The buttons on the front panel are flimsey and break off easily.  The base however is very solid, and does allow you to move the monitor in either a vertical or horizontal position, making it excellent for working on large spreadsheets, or long documents. The base also includes some cable management features, and mounting options for other HP equipment.  There are two USB ports on the side for convenience, but draw power from the desktop, and can only be used for things such as keyboards or mice.  Using heavier powered devices like an external hard drive usually will not work.  The optional speaker bar, which is ok for a desk, but for home use, or a noisey environment may not be loud enough. This monitor is actually manufactured by Tatung, and have a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1050.  The 16:10 aspect ratio can cause problems with some A/V equipment being compatible.
