The Bottom Line:
Highly recommended, bright clean display at a great price point.
Let me first preface this by saying that I live and die by my multi-monitor setup. For years, I have always had 2 identical monitors to do cut and paste work with, programming and debugging, etc. When I started having issues with BOTH of my Viewsonic VP201B flat screens, I went looking for an affordable pair of replacements.
The HPL2208w caught my eye initially due to the pricing - the display was offered at $199, plus tax. For a 22" widescreen display with a max resolution of 1680x1050, that's not too bad. I purchased two of them.
Six months after purchase, both of these displays are still performing nicely. The adjustment menus are easy to use, and intuative. The angle adjustment is simple, and the rectangular base is heavy enough to keep these monitors firmly secured (and has a hollow top, which makes it a great paperclip holder). This model lacks a height adjustment on the stand, which may be a negative for some people.
The display is brilliant - much brighter and less eye-strain inducing than the viewsonics were. No ghosting or artifacts even at the highest resolutions. I currently run these at 1440x900, and text is crisp and easy to read. Using photoshop, colors are displayed very realistically. Each monitor is connected via VGA, as these lack a native DVI connection.
All in all, I have been very pleased with these monitors and would recommend them to anyone. A great buy for the price.
