I recommend for white & black printing only.
I have owned this printer for almost one week now and I can tell this is a fast printer. The printer comes with one toner cartridge, power cord, printer, Installation CD and installation Manual.
This printer like most printers nowadays do not come with a printer cable, which you must get separately. It uses a regular USB 2.0 Cable type A to B. If you don't have one available, make sure you include one when purchasing this device.
I have a Windows XP operating system and the setup was a brisk. Just like on most printers. Without connecting the printer, I run the installation CD on my computer in order to load the appropriate device drivers. After finishing this process and setting up the printer, I proceed to connect the printer to the computer, turn it on and windows recognized the printer without a problem. I can load up to a couple inches of paper on its paper tray. Paper feeds on the front and outputs also in the front. There is a very small plastic support that helps to hold papers after they come out. This plastic support is retractable, but it needs to be expanded at the time of the printing. Otherwise the paper will spit out anywhere.
The laserjet HP 1018 requires HP Cartdridge 12A which you will find a lot of choices to purchase from. There are available, original cartridges, refilled cartridges that are compatible or you will also find kits for refilling. So, I don't see the toner cartridge expense being an issue with this printer.
This printer does not come with an integrated print server, which means that you will have to use this as a personal printer or purchase separately a print server device if you want to use it on a network environment.
This printer does not scan, does not receive faxes and does not print color. So if you are looking for an all-in-one solution, this is not the printer you are looking for.
