The Bottom Line:
I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cheap all in one printer who doesn't do a lot of heavy printing.
This OfficeJet (InkJet) J4580 printer works wonderfully. This is a four in one printer which includes several functions: Print, Scan, Copy, Fax.
I purchased this printer to replace another HP product that I had for at least 4 years. In my experience, Hewlett Packard makes wonderful products and so I chose to stick with them and not bother with any other brand. I especially like the online help I receive if needed and the fact that HP supplies are available at all office supplies stores.
My home office profession does not require me to print every day. I would estimate that I actually print approximately 20 pages per month. (I'm a big fan of saving paper and trees whenever possible). For my purposes, this is an excellent all in one printer. I scan and fax less than once a month and only when the recipient makes it mandatory.
Installation:
Installation of the HP J4580 is incredibly simple. All you need is the disk included. Just insert into your disk drive and follow the prompts. A USB port is necessary and the USB cable (A to B) is not included for connection to your computer.
Printing:
This printer is relatively quick for an inkjet printer. It prints 28 pages in black and white per minute and 22 pages in color per minute. The printer comes with both a black ink cartridge and a color cartridge. Replacement cartridges can be purchased for about $40 combined.
Scanning:
The scanner has a large flat bed that can accommodate up to legal size paper (8.5"x14"). Scanning is as simple as a push of a button on the printer and then following a few easy prompts on your computer.
Copying:
Copying is the simplest feature to use. Put your document or picture on the flatbed scanner and press the big green button. You may choose to print in black and white or color using the arrow button.
Faxing:
Faxings is incredibly easy. The number dial keypad is on the printer, as long as your phone line is hooked up to the printer, you are ready to go. Connecting to the phone line is just as simple as connecting a phone to the phone line with the included phone cable. The printer does not need to be hooked up to the computer for faxing and may be disconnected if you need to move it closer to a phone jack for faxing. There is also a document feeder for faxing which is right on top of the printer for easy use.
Purchasing information:
I purchased the printer at Office Max on with a coupon for $99.00.
What I love:
I love that this printer is fast, never jams, easy to use and compact. It is also very easy to install. The large document feeder for faxing is great. (Many all-in-ones do not have a document feeder and you actually have to scan page after page on the flat bed.)
What I hate:
I wish the printer cartridge lasted just a bit longer for my use. I don't often print large documents so it is not much of a problem for me but for other home offices who print often, this will be a problem.
