Hot Hitachi 43" Projection

bydc270 Nov 6, 2000
Pros Brighter than most, great detailed picture, easy menu, great factory sound
Cons Best viewed elevated up from floor
Recommended it? Yes
Graduated from a nice 2 yr 32" JVC unit. Went and looked at a lot of TV's at a lot of places, Fry's, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears, Dillards, etc., etc., The Hitachi 43FDX01B 43" projection unit really stood out from the rest, especially in clarity, picture brightness and off angle (left to right) viewing. The sound was excellent, but opted for my 6.1 receiver system.

My viewing area is about 8~10 ft from the TV, and others could view from as much as a 30 degree off angle quite well. There is a lot of, and easy to use, picture and audio settings available on this model. The joy stick remote is pretty good navigating tool. This is by far the easiest TV menu/ remote control system I have ever learned from out of the box. Being a CATV technical instructor I can I can relate to this learning topic quite well!!

Set up was a snap and boxed quite well from the factory. Get the factory stand, as this TV is best view elevated about 14"~16" up off the floor from a normal couch back position, otherwise you will lose some picture luminance, detail.

Came with a free DVD, which I up graded to a JVC "component" type, WOW this TV was excellent viewing, very adjustable, even in the 4:3 off of the DVD 16:9 format. The digital CATV signal was awesome as well. The locals were OK. Will be waiting for the "outboard" HDTV tuner prices to drop for now.

If you are in a somewhat limited room viewing area, wanting to get your first projection big screen type TV, do not want to afford the higher priced wide screen stuff, want to get in on the HDTV picture capabilities now, this is the one that will definitely take you there.Toshiba had the same type TV and price, (as did a some other bigger screen manufactures) but this is the one you have to see to believe. No less than 8 TV's in the display room (Circuit City) were all showing ANTS off a DVD player, and this little guy smoked them all, except for the Sony 36" XBR Trinitron. It was $500 more though and smaller! 5 years or less from now, when "it all" goes digital, I think this will still be a great rear projector TV source to watch and listen to. Go to the showroom, become one with the '43FDX01B' (or the 53... model), you WILL be impressed.
